President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed former Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant-General David Sigauke as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), replacing the late Johannes Tomana who passed away last August.
Lt-General Sigauke, who retired from the force in October last year, will take on this diplomatic role. Additionally, Deputy Clerk of Parliament Helen Bangawe Dingani has been appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Tanzania, while Visitor Jerry Mutume has been appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
The appointments were announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, through General Notices 432 A, 432B, and 432C of 2024, published in the Extraordinary Government Gazette.
Lt-Gen David Sigauke, who took over leadership of the ZNA in 2021 following the passing of his predecessor Lt-Gen Edzai Chimonyo, served until his retirement last year. He will now represent Zimbabwe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile, Dingani, previously Deputy Clerk of Parliament, will now serve as Ambassador to Tanzania. Dingani has had extensive experience, having also served as a deputy clerk at the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) before her current appointment.
These appointments mark key diplomatic changes in Zimbabwe’s representation abroad, underlining the country’s commitment to fostering relationships with other nations.
