Masvingo Well-Known Mechanic Arrested For Selling Client’s Car

Masvingo’s well-known mechanic Cain Mupunzi is facing charges of theft for allegedly selling a client’s car without permission. Mupunzi’s case is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday at Chiredzi Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa.

The charges against Mupunzi concern the sale of a Peugeot that belongs to Stanley Mutambu of Mutandi Village under Chief Zimuto for US$1,700 without the consent of Mutambu.

In addition, Mupunzi is accused of embezzling US$300 that Mutambu had entrusted him with in order to buy a gear box for the car.

According to reports, the incident happened in October 2023 after Mutambu gave Cain Mupunzi the Peugeot and US$300 for the intended use. But Mupunzi is said to have taken the money for his own purposes. Although Mupunzi gave Mutambu a temporary replacement car, he allegedly sold the Peugeot to Mutambu on December 3, 2023, for US$1,700.

It wasn’t until January of this year that Mutambu learned of the circumstances and then reported them to the police.
