Thuli Petroleum has come under fire following revelations that the giant company has been selling contaminated fuel.
The accused was given an order by the court to purify the petrol and only sell it after it met regulations.
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) is the party making the complaint.
Christoffel B. O’neil, an adult male resident of 1 Uplands Close Highlands Harare, represented Thuli Petroleum.
The informant, Gladmore Rongai, a gasoline technician from ZERA, was working on December 29, 2023, when he got information about complaints from irate drivers who had bought and refuelled their cars from Thuli Petroleum, according to the court record.
When Rongai visited the service station, he saw that the accused’s workers were selling petrol.
Presenting himself as a ZERA representative, he identified himself to an employee of the accused and requested to gather fuel samples, which he then took for testing in ZERA’s mobile laboratory with the business representative present.
According to the laboratory test findings, which are included in this attachment as annexure “A,” the accused was selling gasoline that did not meet E20 ZWS964 Part 4 standards, suggesting that the gasoline was tainted.
Then, tamper-evident seals were used to seal and mark the fuel pump that held the tainted petrol.
The exhibition space is guarded by seals from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
