Ministry Of Health Removes O’Level Maths Requirement For Nurse Training

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has made a significant adjustment to the requirements for General Nurse Training, sparking surprise among observers. Traditionally, candidates were expected to have passed Mathematics, English, and Science with at least a grade of C or higher to be eligible for nurse training.

However, in a recent development, the Ministry appears to have removed O’Level Mathematics as a prerequisite for General Nurse Training. This departure from the longstanding requirement came to light through an advertisement for the May intake, where Mathematics was notably absent from the specified criteria.

According to details revealed in the advert, applicants are now required to possess a minimum of five O’Level subjects, with passes in English Language, a Science subject, and three other subjects. Notably, practical subjects such as Fashion and Fabrics, Metal Work, Graphic Art, Art, and Woodwork are explicitly excluded from the count.

The Ministry’s decision to update the requirements for nurse training suggests a shift in emphasis towards proficiency in English and Science subjects. This move opens up opportunities for a broader pool of candidates to pursue careers in nursing within the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

The revised criteria outlined in the advert for the three-year Diploma Nurse Training program signal a departure from the traditional academic prerequisites, potentially widening access to nursing education for aspiring candidates.
