4 Zimbabweans In SA Arrested With R200 000 Worth Of Fake Petroleum Oil

The South African Police Service announced the arrest of four Zimbabwean nationals in Centurion on charges related to the possession of counterfeit petroleum oil products valued at over R200,000.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk stated that a team had secured a search and seizure warrant and subsequently conducted an operation at a specified address in Monavoni, a suburb near Centurion in Gauteng province.

The operation was a collaborative effort, involving members from the National Counterfeit Unit and Commercial Crimes Investigations (CCI) working closely with brand protectors to act on the information gathered.

During the operation, more than 3,000 liters of petroleum oil mimicking well-known brands were seized. Consequently, four Zimbabwean nationals were arrested. The Department of Home Affairs will now verify their residency status.

“The suspects are expected to appear before a Magistrates’ Court on charges of contravening the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.”
