The wife of former President Canaan Banana, Janet Banana, has died. She was 83.

Janet succumbed to kidney related complications at Mater Dei Hospital earlier today.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed the passing on of Janet. In a condolence message, the President said “The country remembers her with fond memories and admiration for the important roles she played during the period of our liberation struggle and as our First Lady.”

Janet Banana is survived with four children sired with the Former President. The late is going to have a state-assisted funeral.

“I have directed that the former First Lady be accorded a State-assisted funeral,” said Mnangagwa.
